Lactone Formation from Mono- and Dicar- Boxylic Sugar Acids

چکیده
The most recent phase of the work on simple carbohydrates is concerned with isomerisms occasioned by differences in size of the oxidic ring. The first observations which brought to light the existence of such isomers were made by Nef’ and by E. Fischer.2 Nef discovered two isomeric galactonic lactones and Fischer a third isomer of l-methyl glucose. Isomers of this type have been discovered for the derivatives of many monosaccharides through the efforts of Irvine3 and of other workers of his school, through those of Hudson” and others. Very recently isomers of this t.ype have been described for lactones of methylated galactonic acid (Pryde and coworkersj and Haworth and coworkers ) and of methylated mannonic acid (Levene and Meyer’). Fischer and Irvine have noted that the new isomeric l-methyl hexoses were less “stable” than the common forms and that carbon atom (1) in the new forms is more reactive than the corresponding atom in the common forms. From the observations of Haworth, Ruell, and Westgarth it follows that tetramethyl galactonic1, 4-lactone is more “stable” than its 1,8isomer. The Course of the Oxidation of the Aldose Sugars by Bromine Water
The optical rotation of a buffered glucose solution upon bromine oxidation rises to a point which corresponds approximately with the rotation of the delta gluconic lactone; then the rotation decreases to a minimum value at a rate corresponding to the hydrolysis of the delta lactone; and finally the rotation slowly increases to a point corresponding to the equilibrium rotation of gluconic acid. ...
متن کاملLactone Formation from Gluconic Acids and the Structure of Glucose
In a previous paper’ it was shown that when gluconic (A), galactonic (IS), glucoheptonic (C), and mannonic (D) acids are allowed to stand in aqueous solution, each forms two types of lactones. The lactone with a 6-membered ring forms rapidly but to a small extent, while the “5-ring” lactone forms slowly and to a larger extent. Each acid gives a curve for rate of lactone formation which is the r...
متن کاملBiochemical Detection of N-Acyl Homoserine Lactone from Biofilm-Forming Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Isolated from Urinary Tract Infection Samples
Background: N-Acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) is found to be the main component of quorum sensing (QS) in Gram-negative bacteria and plays an important role in biofilm formation. Little information is available regarding the role of AHL in biofilm formation in Escherichia coli (E. coli). The purpose of this investigation was to biochemically detect and characterize AHL activity in biofilm-forming...

متن کاملEffect of Storage Temperature and Light on the Freeze-Dried Amino Acids from Sugar Beet and Sugar Cane Molasses
Molasses is a significant by-product of sugar beet or sugar cane refining industry. In this work, the effects of storage temperature and packaging on the contents of free amino acids (AAs) in sugar beet and sugar cane molasses after freeze drying were inquired. The effect of different variables such as, temperature (4 and 25˚C) and light (Metallized polypropylene container and Normal polypropyl...
